The final report’s public unveiling is yet to come out, but I’m not exactly waiting with baited breath after having read the leaked previews. Seriously, I can’t believe the province of Quebec wasted $5 million on this. Newsflash: Muslim women who wear the hijab do so, by and large, of their own volition, and for reasons that are entirely understandable–and talking to them tends to reveal that. Other than that rather insipid factoid, the Commission seems to have spent an enormous amount of time and money coming up with not that much. Although, of course, it gave voice to countless backwoods habitants to voice their displeasure at those of darker tones in their midst, but Macleans does the same thing for a fraction of the cost.
